While the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will make maximum use of existing infrastructure, 9 new competition venues will be deployed in the "Bay Area" (symbolizing the future) such as the monumental 15,000-seat aquatic centre.

In the "Heritage Zone" (perpetuating the legacy of the 1964 Olympic venues), the Olympic Stadium will be transformed into a main stadium with a futuristic look inspired by traditional Japanese architecture... The Olympic village is being built on the Harumi peninsula, at the intersection of the Heritage Zone and the Bay Zone, making it a central location between the two zones.

85% of the sites will be located within eight kilometres of the village.
